Made with cornmeal and molasses, Indian pudding is as old-school a New England dessert as it gets. Topped with a melting scoop of vanilla ice cream or dollop of whipped cream, we think it’s a comforting as it gets. Make a batch at home (Old-Fashioned Durgin-Park Indian Pudding Recipe) or visit one of the following eateries for a fine, ready-made example.
The old Dove Crest Indian Restaurant in Exeter, had the best Indian Pudding. We would go to dinner there often. The food was delicious, but the dessert of Indian Pudding was such an enjoyable end to a great evening.Unfortunately it is not longer in operation.
Salem Cross Inn in West Brookfield, MA has THE BEST Indian pudding, HANDS DOWN! Warm, just spicy enough, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or their homemade whipped cream…Yum!! Now you’ve got my mouth watering!
Durgin-Park is the closest to my grandmother’s as is their Yankee Pot Roast and baked beans…
