They’re easy to prepare, can usually be thrown together in advance and reheated, and, with the right casserole dish, they’re easy to transport. Here we choose five of our favorite hearty casserole recipes that work equally well for family dinners and potluck suppers.

Our most popular casserole recipe online, crunchy hamburger casserole — a  classic with noodles, ground beef, cream of mushroom soup, and French-fried onions — is quick, easy, and really good. For a variation, try adding sliced mushrooms, extra tomatoes and some onions.

This breakfast casserole is a great dish for  brunch or when your house is filled with visitors. The ingredients can be mixed up the night before and left in the fridge. Pop it in the oven when you get up, and by the time the coffee is made, breakfast will be ready. While traditionally prepared for a morning meal, this casserole can also be served for lunch or dinner.

This beef ‘n’ biscuit casserole is a creamy chili mixture of ground beef, tomato sauce, and cheese baked between biscuit layers. A great supper to rustle up midweek, when time is short and the kids are starved. The rare leftovers are excellent, too. Try adding sliced mushrooms.
