“Everybody dies. I’m going to die too. So will you. The thing is, to have a life before we die. It can be a real adventure having a life.”

John Irving (born March 2, 1942, in Exeter, New Hampshire). The quote comes from Irving’s breakthrough novel, The World According to Garp, published 40 years ago. Since then, he has won a National Book Award and a screenwriting Oscar, seen his books translated into 35-plus languages, battled back from prostate cancer, become a grandfather of four, and been inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. Next up: finishing his 15th novel, Darkness as a Bride.
