Summer camp evokes a sense of nostalgia we all can embrace. Photographer Stephen Sheffield captured images of Camp Manitou for an article in our July/August 2015 issue. The following photographs are Stephen’s favorites because they depict the essence of summer life at an all boys camp in Oakland, Maine. He chose these particular photographs because of the “feeling” he got while he was capturing the experience, and a timelessness when he looks back at the photographs now. He “remembers” each of these moments from when he was at that young impressionable age in a similar camp environment. “These images bring me right back to that time. Friendships, challenges and special quiet times. In the group shots from my own camp, I could tell you the names of each of those boys from when I was in camp in the 1970s-early 80s.” Please enjoy the timeless appeal of Stephen’s photographs that manage to capture visually those fleeting moments of summer camp.
