Crunchy Hamburger Casserole

Crunchy Hamburger Casserole — a  classic with noodles, ground beef, cream of mushroom soup, and French-fried onions — is quick, easy, and really good.

Yield: 6 to 8 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 cups uncooked egg noodles
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 can (10-3/4 ounces) condensed cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 can (14-1/2 ounces) tomatoes, drained
  • 3/4 cup shredded cheese (Cheddar, Colby, Monterey Jack, etc.)
  • 3/4 cup diced green bell pepper (optional)
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 can (2.8 ounces) French-fried onions

Instructions

Cook the noodles according to package directions. Drain well. In a nonstick skillet, brown the meat. Drain off any excess fat. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Combine the noodles, beef, soup, tomatoes, cheese, and green pepper. Add salt and pepper to taste. Pour into a greased 9-inch by 13-inch baking dish. Cover and bake for 40 minutes. Uncover and sprinkle the onions on top. Bake for an additional 5 minutes. Serve hot.

Very Good ! Liked it even better with rigatoni instead of egg noodles and extra tomatoes.

Very good hot meal for cold nights! I too, used penne rigatoni pasta instead of the egg noodles. Two thumbs up.

This was delicious! My husband loved it and he won’t eat anything new. It’s also great to double it for a church social.

I made a few adjustments since I didn’t have some of the ingredients. I used Cream of Chicken soup and stewed tomatoes. I added mushrooms, celery and onions. My husband and I loved it. He wants me to make it more often. I truly recommend you try it. Very good.

This was an incredibly tasty dish. I also added some sliced mushrooms and a bit of chopped, sauteed onion, and made a double batch to freeze, but I don’t think it is going to make it that far.

  • Quite good. Nice on a cold night. I used shredded hash browns instead of pasta and tomatoes with chilies.

I make this dish frequently. My fiance LOVES it….I add 2 cans of soup ( 1 cream of mushroom, and 1 cream of chicken). I also bought cheddar flavored french fried onions this time. Can’t wait to try it.
