Ever wondered what it looks like inside the Nubble Light? Matt Rosenberg became the Nubble Lighthouse Keeper in 2012. Located on Cape Neddick Nubble Island off the coast of York, Maine, the iconic “Nubble Light” is one of the most photographed lighthouses in New England. During the school year Matt teaches English at York High School, but from April to November, he boards a rowboat and navigates the 100 yards of rough seas to the island (30 to 40 hours a week during the summer), where he helps maintain the buildings and grounds. Wanting to share his unique access with other Nubble fans, Matt began taking and posting photos of both the lighthouse and surrounding landscape online. Before long, Nubble Art was born. A resident of nearby Wells, Matt loves being able to share the special beauty of Nubble Light with its many admirers. Please enjoy these photos taken inside the Nubble Light and from unique vantage points on the island.

  1. Hi Mary. Thanks for letting us know. We’ve updated the post to show active ways to see more of Matt’s Nubble Light art.

  2. We visited there last year. Absolutely breathtaking! Glad this is the lighthouse we chose to visit.

  3. NOT ONLY AM I A FAN, I BEGAN VISITING THIS GORGEOUS SPOT DURING MY UNH EDUCATION, GRADUATING IN 1974 AND CONTINUE TO BRING FRIENDS TO VISIT THERE!

  4. Have stayed in Ogunquit for a week in July for the past 15 years. Have stopped often at the Goldenrod, sometimes for lunch or a cool drink at the soda bar. A definite throwback in time. Great place for the kids. Watching them decide on what flavors to select is a fun thing for us.

  5. Great pictures! Love the Nubble & York Beach. I’m now 85, but I’ve been going to YBM all my life. We live in AZ. now, but our daughter has a cottage at York Beach, so we still get to see the “Nubble”. Enjoy seeing your pictures of it!

  6. Lived in York from 70-77. We have so many fond memories. We often visited the Nubble on a hot summer night to enjoy the cool breezes, then we had to get Browns ice cream to eat on the way home
We all love the Golden Rod and their kisses. Our kids enjoyed their school outing to the G.R. as well. Last Oct, I visited the Nubble and left a little of Andy’s ashes behind, as this was one of his favorite places. Is it possible to be able to go out on the island to look around
