For Katherine Siner, an Appalachian Mountain Club “croo” member, summer in the White Mountains is all about the people she meets. She welcomes guests to AMC lodgings, points the way to scenic spots, cooks, cleans, packs in supplies, and hikes every day. “I came to the huts seeking adventure and family,” she says. Fellow croo, visitors, and a local bull moose they’ve named Hank are now part of her extended family. You’ll find Katherine at Lonesome Lake Hut this summer — unless she’s off in the woods. “I’ll be either kneading bread or stirring soup,” she says, “or running by folks on the trail.”
