A delicious, if daunting, challenge: Find the best start-the-day-right meals in a region famous for jonnycakes and blueberry muffins, while giving generations of farmers, fishermen, and loggers enough early fuel to last until afternoon. We loosened our belts and chose one great breakfast eatery from each state. Try them all–and if you can’t, the recipes we’ve adapted will give you a whole new reason to get out of bed each morning.

As a resident of Warren, RI, I just want to let Yankee publishers know that the Sunnyside restaurant has been closed for sometime now. However the owner has opened another restaurant in town named Simones which serves dinner & brunch.

Let’s not forget Amore in Ogunquit, Maine…a breakfast destination worth the ride, even from Connecticut and we’ve done it!

Red’s Sandwich Shop in Salem, MA and Keltic Kitchen in West Yarmouth, MA have awesome breakfasts! My two favorite places.

Even if you are not a doughnut-o-phile, you will love Congdon’s Doughnuts in Wells, ME. It’s also a warm and friendly place for traditional breakfasts. They have some modern twists on old favorites for today’s foodies. If you ever wonder how in the world Dunkin’ Donuts ever made it this far, you will ache to have doughnuts like this where you live. Try their large variety of baked goods including bread, and you will never pass this spot by again. We’re headed up to the area on Monday and can’t wait for breakfast and snacks to take back to the motel.
