Photographer Carl Tremblay traveled with deputy editor Ian Aldrich to capture the work aboard the Sunbeam missionary boat in Maine for our 2014 holiday feature Mission to Maine. The boat and crew bring medical help  and spiritual guidance to the residents of Maine’s small, year-round island communities, forming an important link to the mainland. The following photographs are some of our favorites that didn’t make it to the print edition. They capture the beauty of this often harsh winter landscape along with some of the faces, both young and old, of those who call these Maine islands home.
