When is a high school football game more than just a high school football game? When it involves the Massachusetts islands of Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. In the November/December issue of Yankee, we tell the tale of this storied contest, officially known as the Island Cup and largely considered the most important game of the season for both schools and their communities. Here, Yankee senior photographer Mark Fleming describes capturing this shot of the victorious Nantucket Whalers as they were preparing to step off the ferry and celebrate their first victory over the Vineyarders in 14 years.
