This is a good way to make chewy cube steak tender.
Yield
4-6 servings.
Ingredients
2 pounds cube steak
salt and pepper to taste
1/3 cup vegetable oil
2/3 cup flour
3 cups water
1 can mushroom soup
1 cup rice
Instructions
Salt and pepper fresh steaks and place in a baggie with flour. Close and shake well. Add steaks to hot oil in a skillet. Brown.
Discard any remaining oil.
In a bowl, add 1 cup water to mushroom soup and mix well.
Add to steaks. Cook on low heat for about 20 minutes.
While steaks are cooking, cook rice with remaining 2 cups of water, according to directions.
When done, place rice on plate, add steak, then add the gravy and enjoy!




I found this was a fast and very cost effective meal. The taste was excellent, and the mushroom gravy browned nicely while it was cooking. I added fresh mushrooms and a little diced onion. All were full, but wanted more. Next time I will make more and let it sit in the fridge overnight. It also freezes well! 10 chef’s hats!
