1 cup whole wheat flour
1/3 cup melted butter
3/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
juice of one lemon
approximately 1/3 cup maple syrup, to which a few drops of orange juice has been added
4 medium apples (can be different types)
Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Grease 8×8-inch pan, (I use a glass pan).
Mix whole wheat flour, cinnamon, dark brown sugar and butter until crumbly. May require a little more butter.
Peel apples and cut into bite-size pieces. Toss with lemon juice and place in the pan. Drizzle some of the maple sugar/orange juice mixture over apples.
Top with crisp mixture. Drizzle the rest of the maple syrup mixture over the crisp.
Bake approximately 25 minutes watching very carefully. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream.
