2 cups flour
2 tablespoons sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon baking powder
6 tablespoons butter
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
3/4 cup dried cranberries or raisins
Sift together dry ingredients. Cut in butter. Beat together egg and milk, and stir into other ingredients, reserving a teaspoonful to brush over scones. Fold in dried fruit. Knead a few times on a lightly floured surface until smooth. Pat or roll to about a 3/4-inch thickness and cut into 12 triangles. Place onto a cookie sheet and brush with milk/egg mixture. Bake at 400 degrees F for 10 to 12 minutes.
