This unusual rich and spicy slow cooker beef stew recipe earned an Honorable Mention in the 2012 Old Farmer’s Almanac Coffee Recipe Contest.

1 cup strong brewed coffee, cooled
1-1/2 pounds beef tips
1 yellow onion, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
1/2 cup peeled and chopped carrots
3 large potatoes, peeled and chopped
2 cups salsa
2 tablespoons garlic salt
1 tablespoon black pepper, or to taste
1/2 cup green peas
Place all of the ingredients, except the peas, into a slow cooker and stir. Cook on low for 6 to 8 hours. About 15 minutes before serving, add the peas.
