Pumpkin Soup

Yield

Makes 6 servings.

Ingredients

1 pumpkin (about 2 pounds)
1 cup water
1-1/2 pints boiling milk
3 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon sugar
salt and pepper, to taste
3 slices stale bread, cubed

Instructions

Seed and pare the pumpkin and cut into small pieces. Simmer in a soup kettle with water for 1-1/2 hours. Put through a sieve and return to kettle, adding other ingredients. Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally, and serve.
