Poppy Seed Bread

Flavorful and aromatic, this attractive bread resembles pound cake. It’s an excellent accompaniment to any meal. — Birchwood Inn, Temple, New Hampshire

Yield

Makes 2 loaves.

Ingredients

3 cups all-purpose flour
2-1/2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
3 eggs, beaten
1-1/2 cups milk
1-1/2 cups vegetable oil
1-1/2 tablespoons poppy seeds
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1-1/2 teaspoons almond extract

Instructions

In a large bowl, sift the flour, sugar, salt, and baking powder together. In a separate bowl, combine the eggs, milk, oil, poppy seeds, and vanilla and almond extracts, and add to the flour mixture, beating well.

Pour into two greased 9×5-inch loaf pans and bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 1 hour.
