Old Red Inn & Cottages Ma’s Molasses Cookies

Yield

Makes 48 cookies

Ingredients

3/4 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup dark molasses
2 cups flour
1 egg
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

Melt shortening in saucepan, let cool. Add sugar, molasses and egg. Beat well. Add dry ingredients and mix together. Wrap in wax paper and chill in refrigerator for several hours. Form into balls, size of walnuts, roll in sugar and bake at 350 oven for 7 to 10 minutes.
