These taste like gingerbread. Great for snacks or with a dish of coffee ice cream.
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 egg
3 to 3-1/2 cups flour (batter should be neither thin nor stiff)
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon ginger
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup water
Cream sugar and shortening. Add egg. In a separate bowl, mix flour, cinnamon, ginger, soda, and salt. Combine molasses and water, and add alternately with dry ingredients to shortening mixture. Drop by spoonfuls on cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees F for 10 minutes.
