Old-Fashioned Apple Rolls

Yield

9 rolls

Ingredients

1-1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shortening
5 apples, cored, peeled, and chopped
sugar and cinnamon to taste

Instructions

Work flour, salt, and shortening together until evenly mixed, using a pastry cutter or two knives. Stir in 2-1/2 tablespoons of cold water well and roll the pastry out on a floured board. For the filling, mix the chopped apples, sugar and cinnamon to taste. Spread the filling on the pastry and roll up as you would a jelly roll. Cut the roll into 1-1/2 inch pieces and place in a 9 x 9″ pan. Pour boiling water over the rolls–enough to almost cover them and bake at 400 degrees F for 1 hour.
