My Best Oatmeal Cookies

My brother-in-law, now retired from the Navy, was in the Gulf War. We sent him many packages from home. Hs favorite cookies were oatmeal cookies. I experimented with recipes until I made up one that became his favorite. Here it is.

Yield

2 dozen cookies

Ingredients

1 1/4 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
14 tablespoons butter (1 3/4 sticks)
1 cup brown sugar
1 large egg
2 teaspoon vanilla
3 1/2 cups rolled oats
1 cup chopped nuts
1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

Mix butter, suagr, egg, and vanilla. Blend in the flour and baking powder. Stir in the oats, nuts, and chocolate chips.

Drop by heaping spoonfuls two inches apart onto greased baking sheets. Flatten slightly. Bake for 10 to 13 minutes.

Notes

Recipe can be doubled.

  1. Easy to make & very good. Very old fashioned in taste & texture. Reminded me of a cookie I ate (minus the choc chips) in Sturbridge, Mass.
