Mozzarella Balls with Tomatoes
Marinated Mozzarella Balls
Photo Credit: Seavey, AimeeThe key to this recipe for marinated mozzarella balls with tomatoes is to buy the freshest mozzarella you can: the texture should be spongy, not dense.
Yield:
15 servings
Total Time:
5 minutesIngredients
1/3 cup olive oil
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon red chili flakes
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
1-1/2 pounds cherry-sized mozzarella balls
Cherry tomatoes to equal number or mozzarella balls
Garnish: 3 tablespoons chopped flat-leaf parsley
Instructions
In a medium bowl, mix the first five ingredients with a whisk. Add mozzarella balls and toss gently with your hands. Pour into a serving bowl, garnish with parsley, and serve with toothpicks.

This was a very good recipe, and I am not just saying that because I love mozzarella sticks, either. The idea of making mozzarella balls instead of sticks is wonderful, as well. Well done!
I tried this recipe and made one change. I left out the chile flakes. I let them marinate for several hours and they were wonderful. With fresh tomato slices on the side, they were great with steak.
The recipe Mozzarella Balls with Tomatoes does not include TOMATOES in the ingredients list. One reviewer served fresh tomato slices on the side. Given that the photo shows toothpicks holding the mozzarella balls and tomatoes that are apparently cut, I am guessing that cut cherry tomatoes would work. Or, might whole cherry tomatoes or grape tomatoes be better?
Hi Joyce! Thanks for your comment. We’ve updated the recipe to be more clear, but feel free to serve the marinated mozzarella balls with the tomato variety (cherry, grape, whole) of your choice. We like cherry tomatoes (halved or whole) because they’re easy to spear on a toothpick.
I don’t understand the phrase ‘awaiting moderation.’
