This old-fashioned French-Canadian treat is neither as sweet nor as rich as “biscuits baked on maple syrup” might suggest, though yogurt does make just as good an accompaniment as the more traditional vanilla ice cream.
butter for the baking dish
1-1/2 cups maple syrup
1/2 cup boiling water
1/2 batch of Aunt Ida’s Biscuits
1. Heat oven to 425 degrees F. Butter an 8x8x2-inch baking dish and pour in the maple syrup. Pour in the water, then put the dish in the oven until the syrup is bubbling, about 8 to 10 minutes.
2. While syrup is heating, roll out biscuit dough 3/4 inch thick and cut out 9 small (1-1/2-inch) biscuits.
3. Place the biscuits side by side, just barely touching, on the bubbling syrup. Bake for 10 minutes, then lower heat to 350 degrees F and bake 5 minutes more, or until the biscuits are richly browned.
