Inn at Jackson’s Caramel Cookies

Yield

Makes 5 1/2 dozen cookies

Ingredients

2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
3 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1 tablespoon water
1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

Mix sugar, butter, and shortening. Add eggs and beat until light and fluffy. Sift and add dry ingredients. Add water and vanilla. Divide dough in half and form two rolls. Chill overnight. Slice cookies 1/2 inch thick. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes.
