Golden Puffs

Try these freshly made with your morning coffee. A great way to start the day.

Yield

Makes 2-1/2 dozen.

Ingredients

2-1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1/4 cup sugar
3 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon mace
1/4 cup corn oil
3/4 cup milk
1 egg, beaten

Instructions

Sift the flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and mace together, then add the oil, milk and beaten egg. Stir with a fork until thoroughly mixed.

Drop by teaspoonsful into deep hot oil or fat at 375 degrees F. Fry until golden brown — about 3 minutes. Drain on absorbent paper. Roll the warm puffs in sugar.

  1. I made this recipe for years in the 80’s when I cooked for a school kitchen. The kids were insane about these little doughnuts, and I’m psyched for find them again online.
