German Baked Beans

A sweet, hearty, high-protein dish that goes well with cold cuts, rolls, and salad.

Yield

Serves 6-8.

Ingredients

1/2 pound hamburger
1 small onion, chopped
2 tablespoons butter
3-1/2 cups homemade baked beans, or 1 large can (1 pound, 13 ounces)
1/4 cup catsup 3 tablespoons brown sugar (or less to taste)
3/4 cup applesauce 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Salt to taste

Instructions

Brown hamburger and onion in butter. Combine with remaining ingredients in large casserole dish. Bake at 325 degrees F for 45 minutes.

  1. This is the very best baked bean recipe in the world!!! I’ve shared it with my daughters and so many friends I can’t count them. It’s hearty and goes with anything from hot dogs to steaks on the grille. I’ve made double and triple recipes for larger crowds and it always turns out perfectly. Just the right amount of sweetness, too. Note: I use the chunky applesauce and it’s great!
