Fry Bread

Ingredients

2 c flour
1 t salt
3 t baking powder
1 c water
1 T shortening
vegetable oil

Instructions

Mix ingredients together and let rest for 15 minutes. (This means you, Harkness!) While dough is resting, heat a couple inches of vegetable oil in fryer pan, until real hot.

Break off a golf ball sized ball of dough and roll out 1/4″ thick.

Test the oil by dropping a piece of dough in the oil, if it immediately rises to the top. Fry until light golden brown, turn once to brown both sides.

Drain bread on a paper towel to remove excess oil. Enjoy.

  1. Enjoyed these since the 1940’s…… Maple syrup and butter is all you need. Easier today using frozen bread dough… put it in a plastic sealable gallon bag befor you go to bed and by morning it is thawed and risen and ready for the frying.
