Beer Cake

2 teaspoons baking soda
2 cups brown sugar
1 cup butter or margarine, softened
2 eggs, beaten
1 1/2 cups chopped nuts
2 cups coarsely chopped dates
1 (12-ounce) can non-alcoholic beer
3 cups flour
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground allspice


Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Grease and lightly flour 10-inch tube pan. Sprinkle baking soda over brown sugar in large mixing bowl. Add butter. Mix in eggs. Add nuts, dates and beer. Mix well. Add flour, cloves, cinnamon and allspice. Mix well. Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake for 1 1/2 hours, or until done
