Apple Bread Pudding

Yield

Makes 6 servings.

Ingredients

6 ripe apples, firm
1/2 cup water
1 cup raisins (optional)
8 slices buttered bread
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg

Instructions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Peel and core the apples, then slice thinly. Put them into a saucepan with water and raisins (if desired), then cover and cook for 15 minutes, until soft. Cut bread into fingers and arrange half in a pie dish, butter side down. Cover with apple mixture, then top layer with bread, butter side up. Top with sugar and spices. Bake for 20 minutes, until crisp.

  1. I was very disappointed in this recipe! The water used in cooking the apple and raisins made the bottom layer very soggy. The top was very dry and hard. There was no way to fit that all into a pie plate. I used a 8 x 8 pan and it was full! I love baking anything with apples but I’m afraid, for me, this is a “thumbs down”!
