My wife and I made our first trip to Stockbridge at the end of April this year. I was thrilled beyond belief. It helped to take my mind off the fact that we were on our way to Nova Scotia for my father’s funeral service. We hadn’t intended to stay overnight but the opportunity to do so couldn’t be wasted. Spent one night at The Red Lion Inn and we definitely will be back when we have less time pressure on us. We have to go back…we arrived at the Norman Rockwell Museum 3 days before his studio opened for the season, although we did get to the Norman Rockwell Museum. As a great admirer of Mr. Rockwell I have to get into the studio to look around. Hopefully in the next few years. I can imagine that Christmas in Stockbridge must be a magical time.

Every year, I put out my Advent Calendar; a beautiful recreation of Stockbridge, MA it really ushers me into the Christmas season ~~ reminding me of days gone by. As a youngster, when the adults talked about such things, it never settled into our “busy” child minds that would we would ever have “days gone by.” Now that many of so many of us have reached that AARP qualifier (and then some) it puts a lump in the throat and a wistful tear in the eye to think back of the times, places and people that we knew and loved. I am so glad that this tradition continues on, not just for those who are Massachusetts locals, but in a much broader sense, a celebration of those things that were and still remain so dear to all Americans. This is a celebration of family. We will be with them in spirit!
