In 1997, Edie Clark bought the Harrisville, New Hampshire, home that she immortalized in the pages of Yankee as “Mary’s Farm.” Learn more about Edie’s decision to put the property up for sale in 2018 in Leaving Mary’s Farm, or take a video tour of Mary’s Farm in the video below:

Have long loved and eagerly looked forward to “The View from Mary’s Farm” in each issue of Yankee. I waited patiently for a copy of the book, as each time I would try and order it, it was out of stock! Finally obtained a copy a few months ago…..I was so excited and happy to receive it! It did not disappoint! The stories take me to a simpler place and time, one that I truly long for!
As a transplanted Massachusetts Yankee, I view each issue of Yankee a gift arriving in my mailbox, something to be savored and linger over. Thank you for all the years of reading pleasure. Don’t change a thing!
Edie Clark, you make me smile! Thank you!
Sincerely,
Pat Spring
A Texas Yankee!
Thank you Edie for once more sharing a part of yourself. When I receive my Yankee, the first part I turn to Your essay…..what a delight to be able to share your home, neighborhood, friends and thoughts. I hope you know how much it means to your readers!
Dear Edie, I look forward to every month to the Yankee magazine arriving in my mailbox. The first place I go is to read your story about Mary’s farm. It just takes me to a whole different place where it is quiet and peaceful I so enjoy your stories. Thank you Laurie Hemple Pittsford Vermont
It was so beautiful to see Edie and the farm for the first time, having loved and read “Mary’s Farm” in every issue of Yankee for years now. There is a beautiful heart-aching melancholy to her writing that I so appreciate, and she is so blessed to live where she does. My subscription to Yankee brings me home every month, until I can return North, and for that I am so grateful.
Yankee is my very favorite Magazine-I have been subscribing and reading it for a lot of years-I do like all of it-but as soon as I get it -I think- I will not read Mary’s Farm right away -I will tease myself by saving it for later-but I never make it-I just have to read Mary’s Farm right then-i have read all of her books-I felt so close to her as she struggled with her husbands health problems and so many of the the other things in her life-I hope that she will write another book-I know she has struggled with her own health problems-I do so hope that she is doing better and that everything is under control-in the meantime I will enjoy in each Yankee Magazine another visit to “Mary’s Farm” <3
As a photographer and lover of all things New England I would love to visit your farm this fall.
Do you allow and welcome visitors and photography?
Thank you

I’m a long-time fan. You create such wonderful images with your words, that I was curious to see how The Farm looked in direct view. It is beautiful and I can see why it inspires you and how your stewardship has enabled it to inspire others. These images are no match for your words, though, because you also let us see its heart and soul, while touching ours. I look forward to more words for many years to come.
Thank you, Theresa and Edie. What a lovely portrait.
Edie, you give generously of yourself and inspire the best.
Thank you for sharing yourself and your farm in such an intimate way. I know that couldn’t have been easy; please know that your are a natural beauty. You speak as articulately and graciously as you write. The first essay that you wrote that I noted was when you spoke of your husband’s death; I don’t remember what year that was. It moved me very much and I became an avid fan. You have humor and pluck, all required to live on an old farm in New England successfully. I look forward to your future adventures on the farm.
Once again Edie, you open your heart and let us in. Thank you. I wish there was more video-I could have watched all night! Theresa, you have captured the farm in splendor and glory (I was lucky enough to have visited the farm some years ago for a workshop Edie gave on the personal essay) and I wish there was more video-I could have watched all night!
Like many of Yankee’s readers, I have been a subscriber for many years. I have stacks of the little magazines dating as far back to the late 80’s.I have eagerly read the essays from the Chesham Depot and on to Mary’s Farm which became the first article I turned to with every issue. Edie has a talent for making the simplest event magnificent and unforgettable. I have lived for 55 years in a small cottage in a rural area of western NYS. My home is very dear to me. Edie’s beautiful home which she labored for years to be habitable is a reflection of her beautiful self. I cried to read that she is no longer able to live there. I will be buying more of her writings to treasure for years to come.
Yankee is a wonderful magazine and Mary’s Farm is my favorite article in every edition. My husband and I were fortunate enough to spend a weekend at the farm with the wind and sunshine and sounds and smells of this country place. At night the sky was crystal clear and the stars so large and bright that I was sure I could reach up and touch them. Edie, I will miss your column and I will continue to drive by the house and wave hello each time I visit Harrisville.
I wish this video was longer as I have enjoyed her columns for years and have fallen in love with this house that I have never seen. I have a few of Edie’s books and am sorry to hear she’s had to leave her beautiful home. I have thoroughly enjoyed her stories.
