Christine Chitnis is a Providence-based writer, photographer and environmental educator with a talent for bringing her images to life by focusing on color and texture. Her writing has appeared in Country Living, Time Out New York, Edible Rhody and The Washington Post, among many other local and national publications. Christine first picked up a camera as a way to illustrate her writing, and soon discovered a passion for capturing the details that make up daily life. She spent the past year traveling across New England in search of the most unique, vibrant, and thriving farmers markets and art events for her upcoming book, Markets of New England (The Little Bookroom, 2011).

Originally from the Midwest, Christine is an East Coast transplant who has fallen hard for her adopted hometown of Providence, Rhode Island. “I love to host visitors and show them around this amazing city. Most people have never given Providence a second thought, but once I give them my grand tour, they are astounded by what a cool city it is!” In this slide show, she takes us on a photographic tour of some of her favorite haunts including RISD’s diverse studios, a few of Brown’s famous buildings, downtown’s River Walk and The Pawtucket Wintertime Farmers’ Market. As for good eats, she suggests Seven Stars Bakery for a morning pastry and coffee, and La Laiterie Bistro for a locally-sourced dinner. Indulge in a bit of local shopping at Frog and Toad, a favorite shop known for their colorful displays and one-of-a-kind gifts. Wrapping up the grand tour—a trip to the Roger Williams Park Botanical Center, a surefire fix for the mid-winter blues!
