Vermont Maple Cookies

Bring these on country hikes or picnics. Tender and delicious.

Yield: Makes 3 dozen

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 2-1/4 cups flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
  • Walnut halves

Instructions

Cream butter and sugar. Beat in egg and vanilla. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, and salt, and add to creamed mixture alternately with maple syrup. Blend well and fold in nuts. Scoop up about 2 tablespoons of dough with a spoon and drop it on an ungreased cookie sheet. Repeat with remaining dough. Top each cookie with a walnut half. Bake 8-10 minutes at 400°F.

    I just made these cookies. Tasted more like paste than maple. I used “real” maple syrup, I guess you have to use the chemically created syrup from the supermarket instead. The 400

  • The original recipe calls for 2 tablespoons of dough NOT 1 teaspoon that’s why the cookies didn’t turn out.
