We have been busy celebrating these past few months- birthdays, anniversaries, potlucks and parties. I try to add handmade touches to every celebration…and I would love to share a few of my favorite ideas with you. This week, I will demonstrate one of the easiest paper crafts — how to make paper party garland, which is so much fun. For a back-to-school kick-off party we recently hosted in our garden, the addition of paper lanterns and yards of garland instantly transformed our backyard into a party-worthy venue.
For this party garland paper craft, you will need the following materials:
- Color cardstock paper
- Circle punch (this saves time, but if you don’t have one, you can cut the circles out by hand)
- Sewing machine
- Thread
Step One: Cut out stacks of circles. You can make them all the same size, but I like to have a little variety- some large and some small.
Step Two: Using a sewing machine, sew through each circle. Using a nice, sharp needle will make it easier to sew through the paper. Between the circles, continue sewing, leaving a small amount of thread. Do not cut your thread until you have sewn together enough circles to achieve your desired length. You should end up with one continuous strand of garland.
You can hang your garland anywhere you want to create a festive, party-like atmosphere. Indoors, I like to hang mine from the ceiling, and outdoors, I prefer to hang it from trees, or across the deck. Wherever you choose to use it- enjoy the handmade touch!
