Our annual obsession with everything pumpkin-spice may be a recent national phenomenon, but New Englanders have long turned to cans of One-Pie pumpkin and their favorite pumpkin puree recipes each fall. One-Pie is our preferred brand for the perfect hit of sweetened pumpkin goodness in everything from traditional pumpkin pie and pumpkin bread to more modern pumpkin treats.

One-Pie’s history is rooted in Maine’s canning boom in the 19th and early 20th centuries, when the state was home to well over 100 canning operations churning out sardines, sweet corn, beans, apples, and, yes, pumpkin. One-Pie canned pumpkin (the company also offers canned squash) officially got its start at the Medomak Canning Company in Waldoboro. Sadly, nearly all of Maine’s canneries have now closed, and while One-Pie is still distributed from West Paris, Maine, it’s actually made in Illinois. Still, the brand holds a special place here in New England, where taste and tradition mingle.

Savor the flavor of fall with these whoopie pies, a spin on the traditional chocolate version. You’ll love the maple cream cheese filling sandwiched between the pumpkin spice cakes.

70 years ago in New York State my grandmother used nothing but One Pie, now I live in CA. and can’t find it anywhere. When I visit my daughter in MA., I bring a few cans home with me. It is the best.
One pie also has canned squash which my family used for our traditional squash pie that is much lighter tasting then pumpkin pie as the only spice used is nutmeg. Very tasty. Regarding canned pumpkin, for extra potassium, I add half a can to my spaghetti sauce and also to soups that I make either with chicken broth or diced tomatoes. I haven’t tried it yet with beef stew, but I have tried using a whole can and it is too much. Besides I freeze the other half for next time I make soup or sauce. It helps make it thicker and tastier.
The One Pie pumpkin pie recipe printed right on the can is the best! It uses molasses and no cloves, which many other recipes call for (including another major canned pumpkin manufacturer I won’t name). It’s the only pumpkin pie recipe I’ll use. Perfect every time.
I use canned pumpkin to keep my dog “ regular” and augment taste in her diet. Always added to my dogs diet for variety, taste and texture but pumpkin ???? is a particular favorite with Veterinarians.
Big Y Supermarket in Ansonia, CT is closing their downtown location and moving to a new location. Everything is 50% off and they have 16 cans of One Pie Squash still for .99/can!
My son , Rob, since he was a little boy, has always requested pumpkin pie in lieu of birthday cake, but only from one recipe, based on One Pie pumpkin. He turns 61 next week and for, about the 51st time, I’ll make him two pumpkin pies, one just for him, and one to share with his friends. Of course I’ll be making them again for Thanksgiving and Christmas too!
Every NOVEMBER I GO “home “ to NH.Always buy a case of one pie squash and I pie pumpkin. My friend who introduced me to,the squash passed away recently No trip this year because of COVID. Will have to used other brands, I love all the pumpkin recipes.,
Having moved to Texas from Maine, I always bring back to Texas enough One Pie Pumpkin to last a year and family members bring me some also when they come to visit. Other brands don’t compare to One Pie brand.

Where can I buy One Pie Pumpkin?
I would search for the one pie company’s web site and check with them. In New England you would find it in most major grocery stores.

My family always use One Pie Squash and called it pumpkin pie. Both are good, but I agree the sqash is lighter flavored.

I noticed that One Pie has gone gluten free. I wonder if there has been a change in their recipe. Something added, or removed.
why would there be gluten in pumpkin?

My Mom always used One-Pie Squash instead of pumpkin. It made a milder “pumpkin” pie. No cloves either…

The Libby’s canned “pumpkin” is NOT real pumpkin but a combination of squashes. Is One-Pie REAL PUMPKIN?
