Lake Morey Resort, Fairlee, VT. 800-423-1211; lakemoreyresort.com. The 18-hole golf course is a big draw at this family-owned resort; also offers an indoor pool, fitness center, spa, tennis.

Loch Lyme Lodge, Lyme, CT. 603-795-2141; lochlymelodge.com. Open late June-Labor Day. The big attraction here is a large lawn and small beach Post Pond, across Rt. 10 from the clapboard “lodge” in which breakfast and dinner are served. Most of  the 20 brown shingled cabins are ranged along a hillside behind the lodge, ten available as weekly rentals and ten as B&B cabins . A four-course prix fix dinner is available by reservation. This is a great place for families, many of whom have been coming for generations.
