Overlooking the dam on Mill River, the Old Mill has been in service as an inn since 2006. In its current configuration, it features nine guest rooms, three suites, and an owners’ quarters.

Old Mill, Hatfield, MA

The Old Mill was constructed in 1870 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Before its current life as an inn, it has served as a gristmill, a machine shop, a gun factory, and a newspaper office.

The coffee shop

The Old Mill Inn features a cozy coffee shop and a dining room that seats 30. It has been operated as a restaurant in the past.

The Lily Pond Room

The Lily Pond Room is named for the fountain pond by the mill’s front entrance, where visiting frogs from the river can be found sunning themselves during the summer. The king-size bed and extra-large bathroom are two of the Lily Pond Room’s many charms.

The Miller Suite

The Miller’s Suite has just enough industrial flavor to remind you of the building’s rich history. Here, the mill’s original post-and-beam construction can be seen. Basically a large studio apartment, the Miller’s Suite has all the comforts of home, including a fully equipped kitchen, a queen bed and a fold-out sofa, and a deck with a great view of the river.

The Newport Room

The Newport Room is the inn’s largest. With a king-size canopy bed and a beautiful view of the river, it’s a favorite for couples looking for a romantic getaway.

The Old Mill Inn is located in the farm town of Hatfield, Massachusetts, but it is also just minutes from I-91 and a short drive from Amherst and Northampton, and the area’s five colleges. As a business, it remains busy, with rooms often booked as much as a year in advance during peak seasons in May and October.

Brass Room

The Brass Room is located on the front side of the inn and is named for its shiny bed frame and fixtures. The fact that the breeze from the river keeps the wind chimes outside the windows tinkling is a nice touch, too.

Cascade Room

From the Cascade Suite overlooking the falls to the open beams and sunny kitchen of the Hatfield Suite, every room at the Old Mill Inn has its own decor and a view not quite like any of the others. There’s an Elm Suite, which will nestle you among the branches, and a Reading Room, perfectly situated for quiet contemplation or a good page-turner.
