Just Winter is a collection of photos by Connecticut-based photographer Jack McConnell taken during the long cold New England winter season in locations surrounding Hartford, Connecticut, on an island in Maine’s Penobscot Bay, and in rural Vermont and New Hampshire. For McConnell, “Winter scenes are monochromatic in nature, which is a restful relief after the autumn hysteria of colors, particularly in New England with its dramatic color palette. In winter even when I’m shooting in color, I can really concentrate on composition, as I can when I’m shooting B&W.” Below you’ll find a collection of some of our favorite of Jack’s shots showcasing the beauty of winter in New England.

  1. Beautiful! I appreciate the work goes into these shots, its not all about keeping the camera temp just right so it doesn’t fog up the lens system. Thank you for these shots-each tells a story if you look for it…

  2. I am a native New Englander. When We retired we moved South. I do love seeing pictures of “Home”in all seasons. I can’t say that I miss the ice and snow.
