Every year in September and October, Vermont attracts visitors from all over the world looking to experience its legendary fall foliage. The changing colors are everywhere, from the hills and mountains to the shores of lakes and ponds, and in both bigger towns and sleepy villages.

For Yankee’s September/October 2017 feature “Hidden Gold,” longtime contributing photographer Sara Gray spent two years capturing Vermont fall colors in some of the state’s lesser-known (though no less beautiful) autumn towns.
