— Jody Williams (born 1950 in Rutland, Vermont). One of the most influential peace activists in the world, Jody Williams has called herself just “an ordinary gal from teeny tiny Vermont, who happens to believe that I have a responsibility to make this world a better place.” Williams won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1997 for her efforts to destroy and ban land mines. Her memoir, My Name Is Jody Williams: A Vermont Girl’s Winding Path to the Nobel Peace Prize,was published in 2013.
