Historic New England is now the keeper of a collection of over 2,000 images, mostly glass plate negatives, that used to be stored here in a small outbuilding at the Yankee offices in Dublin, New Hampshire.  The images were originally purchased by the magazine to be used to illustrate a number of books about early life in New England including the titles, This New England and That New England.  We are thrilled that Historic New England is now giving new life and light to these photographs and is committed to preserving them.  The collection dates from the 1890s to 1930s and many of the photographs are attributed to Alton H. Blackington (1893-1963), a photojournalist with ties to the magazine as well as portrait and landscape photographer Martha Hale Harvey (1862-1949).  Please enjoy this small sampling of a few of our favorite images from the collection.
