In this season 6 segment of Weekends with Yankee (episode 608), we are invited to Maine’s best pond party. Once a year, hundreds of toboggan enthusiasts gather in Camden, Maine, for the U.S. National Toboggan Race. Racers fly down an ice-covered shoot, reaching speeds of 40 mph, and catapult across the frozen pond below. Fun but competitive, racers spend all year crafting their toboggans. In this segment, we learn about the tradition of toboggan racing and the community that rallies behind it. In the dead of harsh Maine winters, the toboggan race brings the heat.
