Massachusetts is one of only five states in the U.S. to grow and farm cranberries. In this season 2 segment of “Weekends with Yankee” (episode 204), Richard is in South Carver, Massachusetts (waders and all) to meet Susan Gilmore at her cranberry farm. Susan shares how cranberries have been her family’s livelihood for generations, and together, she and Richard wade through the cranberry bogs to pick, clean, and harvest the red, tart fruit. Cranberry harvesting takes place once a year in the autumn, making it a classic, colorful New England fall tradition.
