Many people know of Julia Child, but how many people actually knew her? In this season 5 segment of Weekends with Yankee (episode 501), Amy is in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to meet some of the lives touched by the iconic French chef. She joins up with Lydia Shire, Julia’s longtime friend and protege. Together, they retrace Julia’s footsteps around Boston, stopping at Savenor’s Market, her favorite butcher shop. While exploring the city, we talk to prominent female chefs who credit Julia for her work in pushing women to the forefront of the culinary scene. Then, at Scampo restaurant, Lydia makes Amy her famous duck, a favorite of Julia’s. What better to celebrate the legacy of an inspirational woman than a delicious meal?
