Three Mountain Inn Scones

Yield: 16 scones


  • 3 cups flour
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 2-1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 cup butter, chopped up
  • 1 cup add-ins (raisins, cranberries, nuts, etc.)
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • extra sugar and buttermilk for glazing


Mix the first four ingredients. Cut in butter until mixture resembles cornmeal. Add add-ins, then mix in the vanilla and milk. Mix until a soft dough forms. Add more milk if needed. Divide dough into fourths, and shape each fourth into a ball. Roll out to a 1-inch thickness. Cut into 4 pieces. Place on doubled sheet pans (due to temperature). Brush with milk and dust with sugar. Bake at 400 degrees For 15 minutes or until light golden brown.
