Rich Pie Pastry

A thicker single crust for a 10- to 12-inch pie.


  • 1-1/2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 3 to 5 tablespoons cold water


Combine flour and salt in bowl. Rub in shortening and butter until pea-sized pieces form. Add water a few drops at a time, and mix with fork as you moisten the mixture. Dough should form a soft ball. Roll out onto floured surface into a circle to fit pie pan.
