Banana Bread

This recipe has been tinkered with since I got married 18 years ago. My husband wanted a bread that tasted like the one his Grandmother K made, and this is the end result.


  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 4 ripe bananas, mashed
  • 1/3 cup water
  • 1 2/3 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder


Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease the bottom only of a loaf pan.

Mix sugar and butter. Beat in eggs. Stir in remaining ingredients. Pour into pan.

Bake for 1 hour and 10 minutes. Cool in pan for 5 minutes, then remove from pan to cooling rack.
  • This is very close to the banana bread I make, only I substitute the sugar for 3/4 cup honey and reduce the cooking time by 10 minutes. I also like to add walnuts or pecans, and my husband loves it with chocolate chips.

    Really good. It came out picture perfect and was gone within 24 hours the two times I made it.
