1/2 cup sugar
2 tablespoons butter
1 tablespoon cornstarch
dash of salt
1 cup boiling water
1 teaspoon vanilla
dash of nutmeg
Mix together the sugar, butter, cornstarch, and salt and gradually stir in the boiling water. Boil while stirring until smooth and thick, about 5 minutes. Stir in the vanilla and nutmeg.
Follow directions for Vanilla Sauce, but omit the vanilla and add 2 tablespoons of lemon juice and 1 teaspoon grated lemon rind.
