Most of us with kids have a lot of broken old crayons at our house. We make gifts for my son’s class out of the old ones.
We take the wrappers off of all the old broken crayons. We break the crayons into small pieces and put them into Christmas tree muffin tins. (They are by Wilton. I bought mine at Target for about $8.) I then place them in the oven at 325 degrees for approximately 5 to 8 minutes, or until all the pieces have melted and are starting to swirl together. I then take them out of the oven and place a nail towards the top of the tree to create a hole. After approximately 1 to 2 hours, the wax is dry and you can slip the nail out. You then have a hole to put your string in to hang the crayon as an ornament! To speed the drying of the wax, you can stick the muffin tin in the freezer for a few minutes and the cold crayons will pop right out! Kara from California
