Remember those cookies grandma used to make? These old-fashioned oatmeal-raisin cookies will strike a chord with kids of all ages.

Old-fashioned oatmeal-raisin cookies aren’t just delicious, they’re also a great treat for those who want to eat cookies, but want to feel just a little less guilty doing so. Plus, who could say no to Grandma’s baking?

Yield

About 2 dozen.

Ingredients

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1-1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup packed light-brown sugar
2 large eggs, at room temperature
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups uncooked old-fashioned rolled oats
1 cup raisins

Instructions

In a bowl, cream the butter, gradually adding the sugars, eggs, and vanilla.

In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Stir the dry ingredients into the creamed mixture until uniformly blended. Stir in the oats and raisins.

Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and grease two large cookie sheets.

Using mounded tablespoonfuls of dough, make balls of dough almost 2 inches in diameter and lay them onto the sheets, leaving plenty of room for them to spread.

Bake for about 22 minutes, or until lightly browned. Cool the cookies on the sheets for 1 to 2 minutes, then transfer to a rack and cool to room temperature.

  1. Looking over the recipe and noticed the bake time of 22 minutes, is this correct or has there been a mistake in the typing? Please help, wanting to make Oatmeal cookies for my great grand’s and also myself 🙂 Thanks

    1. Looks just like my recipe except I don’t refrigerate the dough and just drop them by spoonfuls. I think mine are done in about half the time. Might try this just to see if it improves the cookie though they are very good as is. Also use the same mixture for Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies.
