While the food is well-crafted, it’s the general merriment that makes The Back Eddy in Westport, Massachusetts, a summer dining must.

The kitchen relies on nearby waters for the bulk of its plates, including classic fish-and-chips; crispy, cuminy wild shrimp; and all manner of shellfish. There’s plenty for landlubbers, too, from fiery habenero meatloaf to succulent pork with macaroni-and-cheese.

Located on Route 88, just north of Horseneck Beach (great for walking and swimming), The Back Eddy is on the docks, smack-dab in the middle of Westport Harbor. If a full meal isn’t in your plans, check out the outdoor barbecue and raw bar — they’ll leave you humming Sinatra’s “Summer Wind.”
